My Fit Living Moment

My Fit Living Moment

I’ve been overweight most of my life.  Looking back in pictures, I can now say that the doctors are right about a recent diagnosis of hormonal imbalance, being responsible for some of my weight.  Some…not all.  You can see looking through my childhood pictures that about the time my hormones kicked in is also when my weight escalated.  Luckily I’ve always been active, not always by choice, sometimes it took some coercing by my head and my sister has always been good about encouraging me as well. I’d lose a little here and there yes, but nothing permanent.  My favorite activities are walking, yoga, swimming, and lifting weights.  But no matter how active I was the weight stayed.

So what changed?  My Fit Living Moment happened in August 2015.  My husband was gone for the weekend, leaving me with both kids (ages 6 & 10 months), it was a beautiful weekend so we set out to run some errands and I was going to prove to myself that I could handle them myself, get things done, have a little fun and get some fresh air in the meantime.   We took off, went to a garage sale, which happened to be across the street from the local donut shop and my son wanted one.  My Fit Living Moment happened on the walk back.  I was walking uphill pushing two kids on the stroller and was completely out of breath and my heart was racing.  I made it back to the car with both of them, but the moment was coming.  I stopped at a roadside vegetable stand and when I jumped out to open the trunk, I nearly passed out.  The world was spinning and I had no idea if I was going to get back into the car.  That feeling of dizziness stayed with me for a week.  I was scared.  So I went to the doctor, who found I had a bulging ear drum and said the dizziness was likely an inner ear issue, but because I was so scared he sent me to a cardiologist.  Given my age (a young 38), he thought it might be a good idea to get a baseline cardiac workup done.  I agreed, remembering how scared I had been that day when I was alone with my kids.  Luckily everything came back ok.  But that was it.  That was My Fit Living Moment.  I decided right then that I had to find something to help me lose weight but most importantly I had to start making time for myself.  So I did and this is the beginning of the story of my journey to Fit Living.
