Fitness Equipment: What I Should Use More

You’ve heard the saying “If should’s and could’s were candy and nuts it would be Christmas all year”…Well, this week I’m going to talk about the fitness equipment I have and should use more.  To be fair, the three things in this category are all pieces of equipment I had before I had kids, and I used it more then as well.

  1.  Treadmill – I love my treadmill.  I was so excited to get it.  I received it as a gift before I had kids, and I would start supper and jump on the treadmill while food baked or water boiled.  It was and still is especially useful during the winter months.  I’m not much for walking on snow and ice.  But then I had kids, and I was worried they would get hurt by trying to join me on the treadmill (I had a picture in my head of them flying across the room and hitting the wall!), so I put up a baby gate to that room, and continued to try to use it with a child crying because they couldn’t get to me.  Slowly over the years I have reserved my treadmill for cold weather, or when the kids are with dad, or in the morning when they are asleep.  The last being my favorite time to use it.  I also prefer to put the kids in the stroller and go for a walk as well, because it’s a win win for us both, I get my walk in, and they get to do something for me.  Someday there will be time for me and my treadmill, but right now in this season of my life it doesn’t get as much use as it should.
  2. Medicine Balls – I use these occasionally and enjoy them but I prefer dumb bells.  My medicine ball set is 4 lbs, 6 lbs, & 8 lbs.  Enough to know I’m using them, but not too heavy so that I can handle each ball in one hand.  I’m not sure if they even fall into the “should use more” category as they have their own set of exercises that they are used for and I just don’t do them as much as I thought I would.
  3. Exercise Ball – I bought it to use for planks and chest presses mainly, but I admit my ability to balance on it isn’t so great.  My kids now use it more than I do and they love it.  I can use a sturdy chair or my ottoman for the same function, and if I didn’t already own one, I probably wouldn’t purchase it.  The other issue I have is that it deflates over time and I can’t seem to find the inflator gadget that came with it when I need it.

There it is…the top 3 things that I have and should use more.  The caveat to this is that you have to do what works for you and your family, so for me right now, walks with the stroller and a quick dumbell & bodyweight workout along with a weekly yoga class are what I can manage.  But I always know I have these 3 pieces of equipment waiting on me if I ever decide to change that.

    The phrase is “if ifs were nuts & buts were candy we’d all have a merry Christmas!” Trust me I heard it for 5 years of basketball practice until I said screw this! Now do a blog of most used equipment, mine are my running shoes, dumbells, workout mat probably. In winter also Pinterest for quick workouts when I can’t go run! Your doing a great job. Take your own advice & keep going.
